Some people call me a geology nerd…this kind of thing is probably why. Thank you Paul for showing me this and making my day.

Same Love came out last July before Referendum 74 in Washington. I have been listening to it for a while now, but the other day it just hit me: this song is representative of so much power. Power in those who wish to oppress people’s rights. Power in stereotypes. Power in expectations. Power in generalization. But more importantly, power in freedom. Power in justice. Power in equality. Power in youth. We will not take it anymore. We will not back down. Change is coming. I know it, because I know us. This will happen.
When I was in the 3rd grade
I thought that I was gay
Cause I could draw, my uncle was
And I kept my room straight
I told my mom, tears rushing down my face
She’s like, “Ben, you’ve loved girls since before Pre-K!”
Tripping, yeah, I guess she had a point, didn’t she?
A bunch of stereotypes all in my head
I remember doing the math, like
“Yeah, I’m good at little league”
A pre-conceived idea of what it all meant
For those that like the same sex had the characteristics…
We are a generation. We are coming.
Not the Lesbian.
Not the Gay.
Not the Bisexual.
Not the Transgender.
Not the Queer.
Not the Questioning.
Not the Intersexual.
Not the Asexual.
Not the Ally.
Not the Pansexual, Omnisexual, Trisexual, Transvestite, Polyamourus. Not the other Stereotypes, Labels, Categories, Definitions.
We are coming. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRZWXYZ. All. Everyone.
One Love. Same Love.
Humanity.

inSo Thursday appears to be Seattle’s favorite day – all across the city free events attract crowds and show off the exciting culture of the city. From free museum entry every first Thursday to weekly outdoor movies, Seattle really puts on a show. This Thursday I traveled down to City Hall to watch the weekly concert at noon. This week’s show was a hip-hop/rap performance by Brother from Another, a group of three Seattleites whose passion for their hometown fills their every lyric.
These three guys were brimming with energy and were a blast to watch. You can tell they’re not doing it for anything more than a love of music and performing. Just look at their smiles! Check out Brother from Another on iTunes.

inThe Script’s New Album #3 is amazing. I am SO EXCITED to see them in concert on August 14th in Auburn, WA. My favorite song, by far, is “If You Could See Me Now”
Two years ago at Relay for Life I asked myself this very question about my grandfather. He never got to see me grow up…I just have to imagine he would be proud. Cancer has a way of making us ask this…
Fight Back.

Warning: explicit language.
This song is wonderful. “I wear your granddad’s clothes, I look incredible.” Who needs Armani or Gucci when you got Thrift!

I am generally not a fan of Christian religious music, but this song is beautiful. I did not even realize it was about God for the longest time.

I think I’ve already lost you
I think you’re already gone
I think I’m finally scared now
….
If you’re gone, maybe it’s time to come home
There’s an awful lot of breathing room but I can hardly move.
There’s nothing like saying goodbye to someone you love. Not just “see you later,” but goodbye. It’s admitting that I don’t know when I’ll see you again. It’s forcing myself to remain optimistic, to pretend as if you’re not really going very far. It’s realizing how much I care about you and wishing we had more time together. It’s understanding my constants have their own lives and their own paths that cannot always intertwine with my own.

I want the Linkin Park I listened to practically everyday for a quarter of my life…I hope this will grow on me.
